Stella Parslow is a self-taught artist who started painting with Enamel on Ivorine (imitation Ivory) and Eggshells. Her first exhibitions were The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (Miniatures Section) and the Medici Gallery, London. From these beginnings she has experimented extensively with techniques of watercolour and gouache, creating a unique collection of detailed fine work which has been widely exhibited.

Her love of landscapes, water and sky influenced her ideas and she has created a very idiosyncratic and recognisable style. She has been developing new techniques over the last few years and this has inspired a collection of landscapes and contemporary abstracts using oils, acrylics and metal foils that demonstrate a new freedom of expression. The public appreciation of these new developments suggests her work to be in the vanguard of new trends in interior design.

Gallery Rouge is delighted to debut two fantastic new original mixed media works from Stella, which are both rare and unusal owing to their large size. Click here to visit the Gallery Rouge website and view the full selection of available work..!

Gallery Rouge is delighted to unveil brand new limited edition ‘A Happy Un-Birthday To You’ by Kerry Darlington. Following on from the huge success of ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’, this latest piece in the Alice in Wonderland series is sure to be another sell-out.

Taken from the scenes from the comic book released to coinside with the motion picture of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ in which Alice attends the unbirthday party of Tweedledee and Tweedledum where Humpty Dumpty is also a guest. The comic book version is actually 32 pages longer than the animated film so collectors may not be so familiar with this chapter from Alice’s advertures.

In Chapter VI of Lewis Carrol’s original literature we learn that Alice at first doesn’t realize what an unbirthday is; however Humpty Dumpty excitedly explains that there is only one occasion a year in which to receive birthday presents and 364 days in which you are likely to receive an unbirthday present, making an unbirthday far superior! In Chapter VII Alice encounters The Lion and The Unicorn duelling to win the crown of The King and these characters are shown in the background, waiting to make their entrance.

Never wanting to compromise her innovative aesthetic, Kerry describes the way in which the edition is created; “Its what I call a ‘hand sculptured’ limited edition, all the 3d pieces on it are handpainted original little pieces of wood, it has metallics painted on top and is finished off with resin”. The edition is been created to ensure those collectors who have acquired ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ will be able to hang ‘A Happy Un-Birthday to You’ as a pair as they are both sized at 40 x 30 inches (image size).

Gallery Rouge is delighted to be able to start taking pre-orders on this outstanding new limited edition and would welcome calls on 01727 86040. Please click here to be directed to ‘A Happy Un-Birthday to You’ on the Gallery Rouge website!

Gallery Rouge is renowned for representing the very best and most talented artists from both the British and international scene, but in honour of St. David’s Day today, we want to particularly showcase the artists in Wales who are leading the field, setting global trends and who we are proud to work with.

Kerry Darlington is one such example. As the primary representatives of her work, we have become accustomed to shipping her pieces internationally; America, Italy and Germany are just some of the locations of the private collection’s Kerry’s whimsical and vibrant artworks now reside.

Kerry was born in 1974 on a coastal town of North Wales, the talent of the artist was fuelled by a love of beautiful old picture books (Rackham, Dulac and Beardsley were her favourites), which developed into a degree in illustration in 1996.

Following University she left to work in Bolivia, South America before returning to the U.K. to work as a designer and illustrator for an exclusive company, specialising in sculptured clay murals for private residences in the Middle East, United Arab Emirates and the U.S.A.

Kerry Darlington worked for many years with line drawings and watercolour, diversifying as she became more confident with colour. Art lovers and collectors have become familiar with her stand out series, ‘Tree of Life’, ‘Tree of Tranquility’ and ‘Tree of Destiny’ which have been joined by more recently inspired works of ‘Peacocks’ and ‘Faeries’. Her latest piece inspired by Alice in Wonderland, titled ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ is guaranteed to be a huge success.

Born in 1955, Joe Bowen lives in the heart of mid Wales with his family, amongst rolling hills and valleys which provide a constant source of inspiration.

Joe’s professional painting career spans over 15 years, during which time his work has developed from traditional figurative painting through a number of stages, to the more liberal and vigorous style he now employs.

Varying his subject matter, often his work depicts the gritty environment of a Welsh town, the allure and sparkle of the big city, or the tranquility and wistfulness of a country scene.

‘New York City Cabs’ is one such example of the inspiration a big city such as New York has provided Joe; the bustling street, the sea of yellow cabs and the towering architecture set the mood and capture the atmosphere of this iconic place.

Born in 1959, Steven Jones spent most of his early childhood in Llysfaen, a small, idyllic village in the hills of North Wales.
In 1975, he began studying at Wrexham Art College, and was lucky to be taught by one of the best artists in Wales, Keith Bowen.
He then spent 4 years in London working as a freelance illustrator and was very fortunate to work with one of Britain`s best illustrators, Mike Vaughan. Steven worked for various clients including BBC Publications, Readers Digest, Collins Books, Daily Mail, Sunday Telegraph, Golf Monthly, TV Times, Barclays Bank, Lloyds Bank, Lancia Cars, Jaguar Cars, Start-Rite shoes, Wall`s ice cream and Securicor.

In 1985, after re-considering where his creative talents could best be expressed, Steven moved back to work as an artist in North Wales. He concentrated on painting in oils after being inspired by the French Impressionists and the Newlyn artists. His paintings have since proved both successful and popular selling through galleries in this country and America as well as via fine art auctions houses, Bonhams, Christies and Sothebys.

Major Exhibition of Salvador Dali work to be unveiled at St Albans’ Gallery

Following on from hugely successful show entitled ‘Picasso and the School of Paris’ held in May 2011, Gallery Rouge is pleased to announce their forthcoming prestigious exhibition featuring the work of legendary artist Salvador Dali. The event, ‘Dali – The Spanish Master’ will be held at 27 Chequer Street, St Albans, Herts, AL1 3YJ and will run from March 24th till March 30th.

Salvador Dali is undoubtedly on of the most influential Spanish artists of a generation. Whilst Dali has been described as a maverick and a genius in the same breath, his impact on the history of the modern art movement is unquestionable. Both Dalí’s extraordinary talent and eccentric personality helped him rise above the rest of the twentieth century surrealists.

Salvador Dalí has been cited as a major inspiration by many contemporary artists, such as Damien Hirst, Noel Fielding and Jeff Koons. Dali’s manic expression and famous moustache have made him a modern day cultural icon.

The hanging collection of work will include Original Prints, Etchings and Line Drawings personally signed by Salvador Dali. Gallery Rouge has also been given the honour of launching a significant collection of stunning Limited Edition sculptures, working in partnership with highly respected Fine Art representatives Washington Green.

This is a rare opportunity to view the work of Salvador Dali close up, where all pieces are available for acquisition.

To learn more about this event, please contact us at info@galleryrouge.co.uk or by telephone on 01727 860401.

Never sitting still and always wanting to bring new and varied works to our clients, Gallery Rouge is delighted to offer beautiful sculptures from renowned artists John Brown and Lorenzo Quinn.

John Brown´s contemporary sculpture is concerned with human relationships and emotions, expressed in a simplified abstracted way, provoking thought and discussion, as well as visual impact. Themes very often run through a number of completed works as in the recent series inspired by the TV programme ´Strictly Come Dancing´. His sculpture is exhibited widely and is now in many private and corporate collections.

Works from John Brown are available for both internal appreciation, as well as large outdoor installations suitable for public spaces and gardens.

Starting out as a painter in 1982, Lorenzo Quinn soon discovered that a dimension was missing from his works and that he could not offer anything that had not already been offered by other artists before him. Turning to sculpture because of a deep-rooted need to create, he found this medium allowed him to convey his innermost feelings to the viewer; it is, in fact, this direct communication which Lorenzo constantly seeks. He says, “It is the viewer that interests me not the art critic…I make art for myself and the people who wish to come along for a ride through my dreams.” He is inspired by the great masters such as Michelangelo, Bernini, Carpaux and Rodin, and he frequently returns to Italy to gain inspiration and knowledge.

Lorenzo’s work is included in many impressive private collections throughout the world, which has lead to a prodigious amount of commissioned work. This includes being commissioned by the Vatican to sculpt the likeness of Saint Anthony, in commemoration of the Eighth Centennial of the Saint’s birth.
