‘Salvador Dali – The Spanish Master’ Exhibition 24th – 31st March 2012

Dali EShot

Major Exhibition of Salvador Dali work to be unveiled at St Albans’ Gallery

Following on from hugely successful show entitled ‘Picasso and the School of Paris’ held in May 2011, Gallery Rouge is pleased to announce their forthcoming prestigious exhibition featuring the work of legendary artist Salvador Dali. The event, ‘Dali – The Spanish Master’ will be held at 27 Chequer Street, St Albans, Herts, AL1 3YJ and will run from March 24th till March 30th.

Salvador Dali is undoubtedly on of the most influential Spanish artists of a generation. Whilst Dali has been described as a maverick and a genius in the same breath, his impact on the history of the modern art movement is unquestionable. Both Dalí’s extraordinary talent and eccentric personality helped him rise above the rest of the twentieth century surrealists.

Salvador Dalí has been cited as a major inspiration by many contemporary artists, such as Damien Hirst, Noel Fielding and Jeff Koons. Dali’s manic expression and famous moustache have made him a modern day cultural icon.

The hanging collection of work will include Original Prints, Etchings and Line Drawings personally signed by Salvador Dali. Gallery Rouge has also been given the honour of launching a significant collection of stunning Limited Edition sculptures, working in partnership with highly respected Fine Art representatives Washington Green.

This is a rare opportunity to view the work of Salvador Dali close up, where all pieces are available for acquisition.

Shining a Spotlight on Sculpture | John Brown and Lorenzo Quinn

Lorenzo Quinn - First Love

Never sitting still and always wanting to bring new and varied works to our clients, Gallery Rouge is delighted to offer beautiful sculptures from renowned artists John Brown and Lorenzo Quinn.

John Brown´s contemporary sculpture is concerned with human relationships and emotions, expressed in a simplified abstracted way, provoking thought and discussion, as well as visual impact. Themes very often run through a number of completed works as in the recent series inspired by the TV programme ´Strictly Come Dancing´. His sculpture is exhibited widely and is now in many private and corporate collections.

Works from John Brown are available for both internal appreciation, as well as large outdoor installations suitable for public spaces and gardens.

Starting out as a painter in 1982, Lorenzo Quinn soon discovered that a dimension was missing from his works and that he could not offer anything that had not already been offered by other artists before him. Turning to sculpture because of a deep-rooted need to create, he found this medium allowed him to convey his innermost feelings to the viewer; it is, in fact, this direct communication which Lorenzo constantly seeks. He says, “It is the viewer that interests me not the art critic…I make art for myself and the people who wish to come along for a ride through my dreams.” He is inspired by the great masters such as Michelangelo, Bernini, Carpaux and Rodin, and he frequently returns to Italy to gain inspiration and knowledge.

Lorenzo’s work is included in many impressive private collections throughout the world, which has lead to a prodigious amount of commissioned work. This includes being commissioned by the Vatican to sculpt the likeness of Saint Anthony, in commemoration of the Eighth Centennial of the Saint’s birth.

Fat Floppy Fluff - The Giant Lagomorph

Five years in Peter’s imagination, this collection took three years to develop, research and paint and charts the pre-historic beginnings of the Lost Impossimals.

Speaking of the collection, Smith has said “Fascinated by the Victorian era, a period in history that was the epitome of discovery and exploration, I became an explorer in my own right, unearthing and excavating the rich, exciting and fascinating beginnings of the Impossimals and creating a Victorian journey of discovery.”

Peter invented the National Museum of Antiquities – a place to hold the Lost Impossimal collection, and Sir Charles ‘Bluster’ Burroughs a renowned Victorian explorer who discovered, catalogued and painted the Lost Impossimals out in the field.

Each of the Impossimals has its own story – discover your favourite at Gallery Rouge now!

Kerry Darlington - 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'

As the primary representative of Kerry Darlington in the UK, Gallery Rouge are delighted to unveil the artist’s latest Limited Edition piece ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’.  Inspired by the iconic novel ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll, Kerry has applied her own unique style to the literary nonsense and beloved characters.  The Mad Hatter is joined by The White Rabbit, The March Hare, Edward Knifeandforkhands, The Knave of Diamonds, The Caterpillar, The Sleeping Doormouse, The Cheshire Cat and of course Alice herself in this whimsical scene.

Never wanting to compromise her innovative aesthetic, Kerry describes the way in which the edition is created; “Its what I call a ‘hand sculptured’ limited edition, all the 3d pieces on it are handpainted original little pieces of wood, it has metallics painted on top and is finished off with resin”

Gallery Rouge is delighted to offer edition number 1/150 which is now in the gallery, available for acquisition.  To register your interest please contact us urgently at info@galleryrouge.co.uk or on 01727 860401.
