In the chilly December weather it was with excitement we at Gallery Rouge unwrapped the new paintings sent by David Renshaw from his studio in Southport.  Building upon his phenomenally successful ‘Northern Romance’ series, David has ventured his lovestruck companions into starlit snowy slopes where their courtship continues.

Romancing those who view his work, David kindly e-mailed us providing insight into his inspiration;

“I am constantly dreaming up new scenario’s for my ‘Northern Romance’ paintings and for the latest snowy scenes I reflected back to my childhood, when the idea of magical lands and adventures would have been perfectly acceptable to me.  These new works feature a frosty winter backdrop however I was conscious that I wanted to retain a warm feeling in the work which is something that I always try to achieve…. I will leave it to the viewer decide if I have succeeded.  I have drawn inspiration from stories that I read as a child including the books featuring the tales of ‘Narnia’  and more recently, from stories that I have read to my own children to assist in creating this new setting for my characters.  My own little observation of the romance between the recently named ‘Doris’ and her doting partner ‘Ted’ continues in these new works and I am excited to proceed to develop the paintings with this new approach.”

Gallery Rouge was delighted to welcome ‘Art Attack’ star Neil Buchanan into the gallery to launch his very first collection of fine art limited editions from the acclaimed collection ‘Hope Street’.

Clients and Art Attack fans alike were not disappointed; as soon as Buchanan walked through the door he announced in his famous Liverpudlian accent that there would be ‘time to have a natter’ with everyone.  New collectors waited patiently to inform the artist of which of the 12 pieces they had selected to display in their homes.  Speaking of the collection, Buchanan attested that ‘Hope Street’ refers to a youthful state of mind, nostalgic of a childhood where parents needn’t worry about their young ones playing in the street, or disappearing during a game of hide and seek.

Buchanan has come far from his roots in the North, with a BAFTA awarded for his work on Art Attack however it became apparent when discussing his intentions with gallery owner Kuldip Chohan that he was out to prove himself, “after 17 years I still used to get people coming up to me in the street and saying ‘I saw you on TV last night, Art Attack is awesome, but can you really draw?’”

The answer is overwhelmingly positive, affirmed by the appreciation and acquisition of his work by many clients and attendees.  Gallery Rouge is proud to be amongst only a handful of galleries to represent Neil Buchanan’s work and will be excited to welcome the artist back into the gallery with his anticipated second fine art collection in 2012.
