Artist Mark Spain (right) with Gallery Rouge Owner Kuldip Chohan
It was a delight to welcome Mark Spain for his first solo exhibition at Gallery Rouge. The extensive collection of orginal work demonstrated the breadth of his style, with strong figurative work fused with city backdrops. This was also an opportunity for clients to view six new limited edition pieces prior to general public release. The reception of the work was strong, with ten pieces selling on the attendance day alone.
Mark spent his formative years establishing a successful printmaking studio in Kent, where he honed his etching and collagraph technique. His fortunes turned after the storm of October 1997 when he was commissioned to create an etching of Kew Gardens, and thus begun his artistic career in landscape paintings. Other commissions include pieces for NatWest Bank and the Dorchester Hotel.
Approximately ten years ago Mark began to explore other areas of imagery including abstract work. It was however his figurative paintings that became an instant hit and today he loves exploring and expanding ideas based on the female form. Movement is a key to many of his pieces as well as form, texture and colour.
