Introducing Carl BouMansour

August 27th, 2010

Revelation, 2007, Acrylic on canvas, 83x98cm.Gallery Rouge is please to introduce its most recent collaboration with Bedfordshire based artist, Carl BouMansour.

Born in 1976, BouMansour initially studied biochemistryand it was here he developed his understanding of the body and form.  Continually questioning, Carl explores what it means to be ‘alive’ with his powerful paintings of the human physique. Here, science and art merge to create a critique of inner and outer beauty, belief systems and identity.

A self taught painter, Carl organised the TURF Art Music & Film Festival in Luton in 2002, ran anatomy and life-drawing workshops, and even produced drawings for and portrayed war artist Albert Richards in BBC TV’s Docu-drama ‘D-Day’. But to Carl BouMansour these are all forms of exploring the human experience.

Presenting the world’s premier relief sculptor, Bill Mack

June 4th, 2010

Longing_SSGallery Rouge is thrilled to announce that it will begin representing the world’s premier relief sculptor Bill Mack exclusively in the UK.  The news comes shortly after the anticipated solo exhibition of Canadian artist Kal Gajoum whom Gallery Rouge also solely represents in the country.  Earlier this year gallery owner Kuldip Chohan flew to New York to meet with Bill and personally select works to be shown at Gallery Rouge in the coming months.  The signing further confirms the gallery’s commitment to bringing its clients internationally recognised artists whose work marries a cutting edge practice with outstanding technical ability.

Bill Mack exemplifies these traits; the artist works in such a rare art form that there is nowhere to go to learn his art and no one teaches his technique.  Combining low and high relief, incised lines, and elements in the full-round in sculpture works that are light enough to be hung on a wall, Bill Mack directly involves the viewer in a 3-dimensional experience, both textural and tactile, that is often startling real.

Bill has had exhibitions in galleries from New York City to Beverly Hills, and from Tokyo to Frankfurt. His work is in the collections of President Clinton and former Presidents Ford and Reagan, actors and renowned art aficionados, Sylvester Stallone, Elizabeth Taylor, and Tony Curtis.

Introducing Gallery Rouge’s latest international signing John-Mark Gleadow.  Beginning with still lives, John-Mark’s paintings soon came to have portraiture as their backbone.  With his mastery of the medium his trademark use of vibrant colours came to the fore – an element of his work made the more fascinating due to his having to cope with his own colorblindness.  His most recent series has fused the centuries old theme of painting book spines with his love of doing figurative work and has allowed him to broaden the thematic horizons of his paintings.

Continuing their focus on cutting edge contemporary art, Gallery Rouge is pleased to announce the forthcoming exhibition of work from of one of America’s rising stars. Be one of the first to see the new collection of photorealistic work from this young, fresh artist.

Champagne Preview Evening – June 10th, 6pm – 8pm. The exhibition runs from June 11th to June 20th

Kal Gajoum – Official Artist of the 2010 Winter Olympics

Following on from the hugely successful event with legendary photographer Terry O’Neill, Gallery Rouge was delighted to hold their latest exhibition with Canadian based art sensation Kal Gajoum. Hugely desired and collected, Gajoum’s work is a  masterclass in textured oil painting. Gajoum was in personal attendance on Saturday 20 March and commented “I love England, and was very excited to bring a strong collection of work inspired by my many years having lived here and in Europe. The reception has been fantastic!”

When asked why to exhibit in St Albans and not central London “I chose to work with Kuldip because he is passionate about art, and in helping his clients find outstanding paintings. I’m looking forward to working closely with Gallery Rouge on future projects – watch this space!”

Gallery owner Kuldip Chohan was equally pleased “This event has been a year in the making, and I’m thrilled Kal agreed to fly over from Canada for this special one-off event. I know how busy Kal is, and we have had people travelling great distances to be able to see and acquire his beautiful paintings. His work has to be viewed in the flesh to be truly appreciated – he is deservedly creating waves in the art world”

With a career spanning over twenty years, Gajoum has quite literally travelled a long way from his birthplace of Tripoli. Gajoum’s exquisite use of the palette knife stands him apart. His mesmerising work achieves a warmth and depth seldom accomplished; he is able to bring to life street scenes from around the world, and his paintings often epitomise the café culture of romantic cities.

February 10th, 2010

DSC_0022

On February Wednesday 10th Gallery Rouge was transformed from an art gallery into a studio set. Many ‘foodies’ will be followers of the hit Channel 4 programme in which four contestants compete to win £1000 by pitting their culinary skills against one another. One of the contestants, a keen art appreciator, used the gallery as a venue to deliver her review and ratings of the previous night, whilst assessing a fellow contestants’ forthcoming menu.

Precise details of when the show will be aired are not yet known, but we’ll be sure to notify you as soon as  we know!
